So You Wanna Be a Winter Workout Warrior…
Staying warm and dry from head to toe and still kicking some serious ass in your winter workout can be tricky.
If you’re new to the Outdoor Winter Workout Game, here are just a few suggestions to help keep you cozy and comfortable while you get your outdoor workout on.
First off, wear lots of layers, the less cotton, the better! Make sure your base layers are sweat wicking to keep you dry, (this means no cotton directly on your skin).
Once you have your base layer on, layer up and up and up. There’s nothing worse than freezing your sweaty little buns off while doing burpees- am I right? So the more lightweight layers you can pile on, the better. That way you can de-layer as your core temperature increases and layer up as you start to cool down and feel that winter chill again. Aaaaaaand I’m not just talking about your upper body here… layer up those leggies too!
Keep your tootsies warm by wearing Merino wool socks layered over technical moisture wicking run socks. Bring boots and an extra pair of socks to wear before & after your workout. If you have a pair of flexible boots, like Vivobarefoot consider wearing them for your workout. Bonus: Wearing boots for your workout will also feel like you're wearing ankle weights… Did someone ask for more booty burn? ;)
Be sure to stay warm up top by wearing a buff aka neck warmer, a toque aka beanie and bring a headband for your ears, in case you get too warm in your hat. Keep your fingers from freezing by wearing run gloves with mittens or thicker gloves overtop on those really chilly days. And of course, get that cozy feeling all over by sipping on a warm drink during your workout.
And please please please Check the weather! Take a peek at the “feels like” temp before you head out and bundle up accordingly!
